Moomin: Midsummer Madness Launches This Autumn on Switch and PC

Aug 9, 2026

The Moomins are preparing for another video game adventure, as publisher Shochiku Games and developer Crossbridge Game Studios have confirmed that Moomin: Midsummer Madness will launch this autumn for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. Physical editions are also planned for both Nintendo Switch platforms.

Inspired by Tove Jansson’s classic 1954 novel Moominsummer Madness, the upcoming point-and-click adventure puts players in control of Moomintroll and Little My after a massive flood sweeps through Moominvalley. Their journey eventually leads them to a mysterious floating theatre filled with costumes, scripts, secrets, and plenty of opportunities for mischief.

A Hand-Painted Journey Through Moominvalley

One of Moomin: Midsummer Madness’ most distinctive features is its visual presentation. Crossbridge Game Studios has created hand-painted environments inspired by Jansson’s original illustrations, giving the game the appearance of a Moomin storybook brought to life.

Players will explore familiar locations such as the Moominhouse while also visiting new environments connected to the flooded valley and mysterious theatre. The adventure promises recognizable moments from the original novel alongside new stories created specifically for the game.

Gameplay will revolve around traditional point-and-click exploration, conversations with characters, puzzles, and a variety of mini-games. Different members of the Moomin cast will also have unique talents that can be used to overcome obstacles. Some characters can swim, for example, while smaller characters can reach places others cannot.

The developers are aiming for an experience that remains accessible to players of all ages, with a built-in hint system available for anyone who gets stuck.

A Relaxing Adventure for Moomin Fans

Rather than emphasizing difficult puzzles or high-stakes action, Moomin: Midsummer Madness is being designed as a relaxed, family-friendly adventure centered around curiosity, friendship and helping others.

The game will also feature an original soundtrack composed specifically for the adventure, complementing its colorful environments and storybook aesthetic.

For longtime Moomin fans, the adaptation should offer plenty of familiar characters and references to discover. At the same time, its standalone story and accessible gameplay are intended to make it approachable for players experiencing Moominvalley for the first time.

Moomin: Midsummer Madness launches in autumn 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam. Steam currently lists the game for Q4 2026, with a specific release date yet to be announced.
