Crow Survival Game Migration Is Heading to Kickstarter

Developer Define Human and publisher Slug Disco are preparing to take their crow survival game Migration to Kickstarter.

Indie developer Define Human has officially launched the Kickstarter pre-launch page for Migration, an upcoming survival game that puts players in the feathers of a crow trying to stay alive in an increasingly hostile wilderness.

The Kickstarter pre-launch page went live on August 7, giving interested players the opportunity to follow the campaign ahead of its full launch.

Migration takes a different approach to the increasingly crowded survival genre. Instead of playing as a stranded human fighting against the wilderness, players become a migrating crow dealing with hunger, thirst, exhaustion, predators, dwindling resources, and a world caught in dangerous cycles of warmth and frost.

Survival From a Crow’s Perspective

Players will be able to freely travel through the air and across the ground while exploring the game’s environment. Flying provides a way to scout the surrounding landscape, but survival will require regularly returning to the ground to find food, gather resources, interact with other animals, and build a nest.

The changing environment is one of Migration’s central survival mechanics.

As colder weather arrives, previously lush areas can become covered in snow and ice. Water sources may freeze, paths can become inaccessible, and resources become increasingly difficult to find. These cycles also become progressively shorter, forcing players to determine when they’ve pushed their luck far enough and need to migrate somewhere safer.

Players won’t simply be watching a hunger meter, either. Their crow must eat, drink, rest, maintain its feathers, and tend to injuries while remaining alert for predators.

Nest building also plays a role in survival. Nests can be constructed in several locations, including trees, caves, cliffs, and even on the ground, with players gathering branches and other materials to maintain them.

Other Animals Could Be Friend or Foe

The wilderness isn’t empty.

Players will encounter other animals throughout their journey and may be able to cooperate with them, trade resources, or take advantage of opportunities created by their behavior.

That could mean scavenging from a carcass left behind by a predator or working with another animal whose abilities provide access to resources the crow couldn’t otherwise reach.

Resources can also be collected and stored for later use, including berries, insects, meat, and building materials. However, supplies won’t necessarily remain safe forever. Items can decay, while other animals may attempt to steal what the player has collected.

Eventually, staying put becomes more dangerous than leaving.

When resources disappear and the environment becomes increasingly hostile, players will have to abandon familiar territory and migrate toward new lands, encountering different environments, animals, resources, and threats along the way.

Migration Is Heading to PC

Migration is currently being developed for PC by Define Human and published by Slug Disco. The game already has a Steam page, although a release date has not yet been announced.

Its Steam listing currently describes the game as a single-player adventure and simulation title featuring open-world exploration, resource management, crafting, survival mechanics, and flight.

The upcoming Kickstarter campaign should provide a clearer picture of Define Human’s plans for the project, including its funding goal, potential stretch goals, rewards, and development roadmap.

For survival-game fans looking for something substantially different from chopping down trees as another human survivor, Migration’s combination of flight, changing environments, animal interactions, and crow-based survival could make this one worth watching.
