Battlefield 6 x Top Gun Crossover Revealed
Battlefield 6 is preparing to take aerial warfare to another level as its upcoming Top Gun collaboration brings new fighter jets, air-focused game modes, familiar characters, and a revamped Wake Island to the battlefield.
Electronic Arts and Battlefield Studios have released the official gameplay trailer for the upcoming Battlefield 6 x Top Gun crossover, giving players their best look yet at the aviation-heavy update arriving on August 18, 2026.
The collaboration draws heavily from Top Gun: Maverick, combining the blockbuster film’s emphasis on high-speed aerial combat with Battlefield’s signature large-scale combined-arms warfare. The update will introduce two new two-seat fighter jets, new modes built around aerial combat, playable Top Gun characters, and a substantially rebuilt version of one of Battlefield’s most recognizable maps.
Two New Jets Enter the Fight
Unsurprisingly, aircraft are at the center of the Battlefield 6 x Top Gun crossover.
Players will be able to take control of two new fighter jets: the F-74A Seacat and F/A-81F Super Spectre. Both are two-seat aircraft, opening the door for pilots and their teammates to work together while engaging enemy forces from above.
The gameplay trailer puts the new aircraft front and center, showing high-speed passes, missile launches and intense dogfights as Battlefield leans into the cinematic aerial warfare associated with Top Gun.
The two-seat design could also make the aircraft particularly interesting from a gameplay perspective. Rather than putting every responsibility on a single pilot, the new jets encourage cooperation between players as they attempt to establish air superiority over the battlefield.
Wake Island Returns With a Major Overhaul
The crossover also coincides with the return of Wake Island, one of the most recognizable maps in Battlefield history.
Originally appearing in Battlefield 1942, Wake Island has returned in several installments over the years. Battlefield 6’s version has been rebuilt with an increased emphasis on naval warfare while maintaining the combination of infantry, vehicle and aircraft combat that made the location a franchise favorite.
Aircraft carriers play an important role in the redesigned battlefield, serving as bases of operation while expanding combat beyond the island itself.
With battles potentially unfolding across land, sea and air simultaneously, Wake Island looks particularly well suited to the Top Gun collaboration.
Carrier Strike Puts Aircraft Carriers at the Center of Battle
One of the biggest additions arriving with the update is Carrier Strike, a mode built around attacking and defending aircraft carriers.
Teams will fight for control of sectors across Wake Island, gaining access to vehicles and opportunities to push toward the opposing carrier. The battle can ultimately transition aboard the carrier itself, turning the massive naval vessel into the setting for close-quarters infantry combat after players have fought their way across the larger battlefield.
It’s a concept that plays directly into Battlefield’s strengths.
Players could potentially move from dogfighting thousands of feet above the map to fighting aboard an enemy carrier during the same match, creating the kind of unpredictable large-scale encounters that have defined the franchise.
Fighter Sweep Brings Dogfighting to Gauntlet
Players looking for an even stronger emphasis on aviation will also have Gauntlet: Fighter Sweep.
The new REDSEC mission challenges squads with destroying enemy aircraft and stockpiles across the battlefield. Some players can focus on objectives on the ground while others take to the skies to intercept hostile jets and protect their teammates.
The result should give experienced Battlefield pilots considerably more opportunity to demonstrate their skills while still making teamwork an important part of completing the mission.
Top Gun: Maverick Characters Join Battlefield 6
The collaboration goes beyond aircraft and game modes.
Several characters from Top Gun: Maverick are also making the jump into Battlefield 6.
Players will be able to deploy as Lt. Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw, Lt. Robert “Bob” Floyd, and Adm. Solomon “Warlock” Bates, based on the characters portrayed in the film by Miles Teller, Lewis Pullman and Charles Parnell respectively.
Their inclusion gives the crossover a more direct connection to the movie rather than simply offering Top Gun-themed aircraft skins or cosmetic items.
Battlefield and Top Gun Are a Natural Fit
Crossovers have become increasingly common across multiplayer games, but Battlefield and Top Gun may be one of the more natural combinations.
Battlefield has featured fighter jets and large-scale aerial warfare for decades, and some of the franchise’s most memorable multiplayer moments have involved players battling for control of the skies while infantry and armored vehicles fight below.
Top Gun’s emphasis on fighter pilots, dogfighting and high-speed aviation fits neatly into that formula.
More importantly, the collaboration appears to introduce meaningful gameplay content alongside its movie-inspired elements. New aircraft, Carrier Strike, Fighter Sweep and the redesigned Wake Island mean players will have considerably more to experience than a collection of themed cosmetics.
Prepare for Takeoff on August 18
The Battlefield 6 x Top Gun update launches August 18, 2026, bringing its new aircraft, modes, characters and aerial combat to Battlefield 6. The game is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
Between the return of Wake Island and a crossover seemingly tailor-made for Battlefield’s vehicle combat, August 18 could be a particularly good day for players who prefer spending their matches in the cockpit.
The only question left is whether Battlefield’s pilots have what it takes to become the best of the best.
