Nintendo Download: Elden Ring and Metal Gear Lead a Huge Week for Switch 2

Nintendo’s latest weekly eShop update has arrived, and Nintendo Switch 2 owners have an especially busy weekend ahead.

The August 27 edition of Nintendo Download, appropriately titled “Boots on the Ground,” puts two major releases front and center: ELDEN RING Tarnished Edition and METAL GEAR SOLID: MASTER COLLECTION Vol. 2. Nintendo is also preparing players for the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Open Beta, while another sizable collection of games heads to Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.

For players looking for something new, this could be one of the more substantial Nintendo eShop updates of the summer.

ELDEN RING Tarnished Edition Arrives on Nintendo Switch 2

One of the biggest releases highlighted this week is ELDEN RING Tarnished Edition, bringing FromSoftware’s massive action RPG to Nintendo Switch 2.

The Tarnished Edition includes the original ELDEN RING adventure along with the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. Nintendo says the package also features additional weapons and armor, plus a new customization option for Torrent.

The game gives Switch 2 players the opportunity to explore the Lands Between, tackle its sprawling dungeons and face the enormous bosses that helped make ELDEN RING one of the most acclaimed action RPGs of recent years.

ELDEN RING Tarnished Edition launches for Nintendo Switch 2 on August 28.

Pre-orders are currently available through Nintendo eShop.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 Hits Switch

Stealth fans also have a major release to check out.

METAL GEAR SOLID: MASTER COLLECTION Vol. 2 is available for Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch beginning August 27.

The second Master Collection brings together two important chapters from the Metal Gear franchise:

  • Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
  • Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker

The release is particularly notable for bringing Metal Gear Solid 4 to Nintendo hardware as part of the collection.

Both games are also listed individually as Master Collection versions on Nintendo Switch 2.

Modern Warfare 4 Open Beta Comes to Switch 2

Nintendo Switch 2 players looking for something to play this weekend will also be able to jump into the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Open Beta.

The beta runs from August 28 at 10 a.m. PT through September 1 at 10 a.m. PT.

Nintendo says Switch 2 players will be able to experience a playable Campaign mission along with multiplayer modes and additional content while earning in-game beta rewards.

Even better, Switch 2 players participating in the open beta will have access to Vault Edition operators and weapons, regardless of whether they have pre-ordered the game.

The full version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled to launch October 23 for Nintendo Switch 2.

More Nintendo Switch 2 Games Arrive This Week

Beyond the week’s headline releases, several additional games are joining the Nintendo Switch 2 library.

The lineup continues to demonstrate how quickly the Switch 2 library is expanding, with everything from major releases to indie games and classic arcade titles represented this week.

It’s another reminder that Nintendo continues to support both generations simultaneously, even as Switch 2 increasingly becomes the home of the week’s biggest releases.

Orbitals Pre-Orders Open

Nintendo also highlighted Orbitals, an upcoming two-player cooperative adventure for Nintendo Switch 2.

Players control Maki and Omura as the pair journey beyond the dangerous Storm Wall in an attempt to save their home.

The game emphasizes teamwork and communication while presenting its science-fiction adventure through a distinctive retro anime-inspired aesthetic.

Orbitals launches September 3 on Nintendo Switch 2, with pre-orders available now.

Nintendo Music Adds SimCity and More Mario Kart Tracks

The weekly update isn’t limited to games.

Nintendo Music subscribers can now listen to music from the classic Super NES version of SimCity, including tracks such as “Dr. Wright,” “Amusement Park” and “Megalopolis.”

Nintendo has also added the final wave of Mario Kart World Free Roam tracks, along with two additional bonus tracks.

New My Nintendo Rewards

Nintendo is also offering several new rewards and promotions through My Nintendo.

A The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Vinyl Soundtrack Sweepstakes gives eligible fans the opportunity to win a limited-edition deluxe eight-LP box set containing 130 specially mastered tracks.

Pokémon fans can spend 500 Platinum Points on a new Pokémon Pokopia Notebook, while Star Fox fans can redeem 400 Platinum Points for a collectible two-patch set featuring Fox McCloud and the Star Fox logo.

Nintendo’s Blockbuster Sale Begins

Finally, Nintendo has launched a new Blockbuster Sale across Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch.

The promotion began August 27 at 9 a.m. PT and runs through September 9 at 11:59 p.m. PT, offering discounts on a selection of digital games through Nintendo eShop.

With ELDEN RING arriving on Switch 2, Metal Gear Solid returning with another Master Collection and Modern Warfare 4 opening its doors for a weekend beta, Nintendo players have no shortage of options heading into the final weekend of August.

For Switch 2 in particular, the steady stream of major third-party releases continues to make Nintendo’s newest console considerably harder to ignore.
