Wave 1 Brings RuneScape: Dragonwilds, SpeedRunners 2 and More

Microsoft has officially revealed the first wave of games headed to Xbox Game Pass in September 2026, delivering everything from competitive platforming and survival crafting to deck-building, fighting games and a returning Call of Duty favorite.

The Xbox Game Pass September 2026 Wave 1 lineup is headlined by RuneScape: Dragonwilds, SpeedRunners 2: King of Speed, The Royal Writ, and Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage. Subscribers can also look forward to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War joining the service.

The new arrivals begin September 1 and continue through the middle of the month.

Shelldiver – September 1

Kicking things off is Shelldiver, an incremental game with an unusual premise: players control an elderly turtle who catches jellyfish and sells them through a small shop.

Players can improve their equipment, venture into different underwater environments and help the local turtle population while gradually expanding their operation.

Shelldiver is available through Game Pass beginning September 1.

SpeedRunners 2: King of Speed – September 3

One of the month’s biggest day-one releases is SpeedRunners 2: King of Speed.

The sequel expands the competitive platforming formula of the original SpeedRunners, challenging players to outrun and outmaneuver their opponents while navigating obstacle-filled courses.

Online races now support as many as eight players, while familiar mechanics including grappling hooks and power-ups return alongside new maps, updated visuals and improved netcode.

For Game Pass subscribers looking for something competitive to play with friends, SpeedRunners 2 could easily become one of September’s surprise multiplayer hits.

Dice a Million – September 4

Dice a Million expands its Game Pass availability on September 4 as it arrives on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox Cloud Gaming while joining Game Pass Premium.

The roguelike deck-builder revolves around creating increasingly powerful combinations of dice, rings and other abilities as players attempt the seemingly ridiculous objective of rolling a total of one million.

It is certainly one of the stranger concepts in September’s lineup, but that’s also part of its appeal.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War – September 8

One of the most recognizable games joining Xbox Game Pass this month is Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

Developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, the 2020 entry takes the Black Ops series into the geopolitical tension of the early 1980s.

Its campaign sends players across locations including East Berlin, Vietnam, Turkey and Soviet KGB headquarters while mixing fictional espionage with historical figures and events.

The addition gives Game Pass subscribers another major Call of Duty title to explore when Black Ops Cold War arrives September 8.

The Royal Writ – September 10

The Royal Writ brings medieval strategy and roguelike deck-building to Game Pass on September 10.

Players assemble an army represented by cards before sending those units into battle across a dynamic battlefield. There’s a significant catch, however: death can be permanent.

That means sacrificing a unit could become part of the history of your kingdom rather than simply being something that disappears when the battle ends.

The combination of deck-building, strategy and permanent consequences could make The Royal Writ one of the more intriguing indie additions to this month’s Game Pass catalog.

Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage – September 10

Fighting game fans aren’t being left out.

Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage joins Xbox Game Pass on September 10, bringing Sega’s influential 3D fighting series back into the spotlight.

The release includes the new World Stage single-player experience alongside cross-play and rollback netcode for online competition.

Enhanced training and replay tools are also included, giving both newcomers and experienced Virtua Fighter players additional ways to learn the game’s notoriously deep combat system.

RuneScape: Dragonwilds – September 15

The biggest addition of the Xbox Game Pass September 2026 Wave 1 lineup may arrive last.

RuneScape: Dragonwilds comes to Game Pass on September 15 as the RuneScape universe expands into cooperative open-world survival crafting.

Players travel to the forgotten continent of Ashenfall, where dragons have awakened and survival requires gathering resources, crafting equipment, building settlements and developing skills.

Dragonwilds retains familiar elements of RuneScape while placing them inside a considerably different style of game. Players can adventure alone or work together in co-op as they uncover Ashenfall’s secrets and prepare for an eventual confrontation with the Dragon Queen.

The September 15 Xbox launch is particularly notable because Dragonwilds represents the first RuneScape title to launch on a console during the franchise’s 25-year history.

TCG Card Shop Simulator Reaches Version 1.0

Game Pass subscribers will also see a significant update to TCG Card Shop Simulator on September 15.

The game officially leaves Game Preview and reaches its full 1.0 release across Cloud, Xbox Series X|S, Handheld and PC.

In addition to managing a card shop, the full release expands the game’s card-playing elements through the fictional Tetramon TCG, allowing players to build decks and host tournaments.

NHL 27 Gets an EA Play Trial

Game Pass Ultimate subscribers with access to EA Play can also try EA Sports NHL 27 beginning September 4.

The early-access trial provides up to 10 hours with the game, including the new Connected Franchise mode and revamped broadcast presentation. Progress made during the trial can carry over for players who later purchase the full game.

New arrivals also mean it’s time to say goodbye to several games.

Instead, Microsoft is offering a surprisingly broad mix.

SpeedRunners 2 provides a new multiplayer option, Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage covers fighting fans, The Royal Writ and Dice a Million cater to players who enjoy roguelikes and deck-builders, while Black Ops Cold War adds another major established release to the catalog.

But RuneScape: Dragonwilds is arguably the game to watch.

Bringing RuneScape’s familiar world and progression systems into a cooperative survival experience — while simultaneously marking the franchise’s console debut — makes its September 15 arrival one of the more interesting Game Pass releases of the month.

And this is only Wave 1.
