GTA 6 Gameplay Leak Appears Ahead of Rockstar Reveal

Grand Theft Auto VI is once again at the center of a major leak, with purported gameplay footage and map information appearing online just days before Rockstar Games is scheduled to give players an extended official look at the highly anticipated game.

The new material began circulating online this week and appears to show previously unseen GTA 6 gameplay featuring protagonist Jason Duval. The footage has spread rapidly across social media and gaming communities, although some of the videos have already disappeared following copyright claims.

The timing couldn’t be much worse for Rockstar. The developer has an official Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look presentation scheduled for August 27, making the leaked footage an unwanted preview of a game Rockstar is preparing to showcase on its own terms.

What Was Shown in the GTA 6 Leak?

According to reports examining the footage, the leaked videos appear to reveal several potential gameplay mechanics and activities.

Among the details spotted are Jason playing basketball, stealing vehicles and taking part in combat. Reports have also pointed to what appears to be a return of a six-star wanted level, along with a possible vehicle fuel system and changes to combat.

Other leaked material reportedly provides a more extensive look at the game’s map and the state of Leonida.

As with any material obtained from an unofficial build, however, players should be cautious about treating everything shown as representative of the finished game. Features, interfaces and mechanics can change substantially during development.

Who Is Behind the Latest GTA 6 Leak?

The leaked material has been associated with the name “CyberLeek,” with circulated videos reportedly containing watermarks, QR codes and cryptocurrency promotion.

The people behind the leak have also attempted to frame the release of the material as a protest against the move toward digital game distribution and digital pre-orders.

That argument comes at an interesting time for Grand Theft Auto VI. Rockstar parent company Take-Two has recently attracted attention over the future of physical game distribution, while GTA 6 itself has become part of the broader debate surrounding physical ownership and digital games.

Whatever the motivation, leaking unfinished or unreleased material is a very different matter from debating the future of physical media.

Rockstar Is Already Taking Action

At least some of the leaked videos have reportedly been removed following copyright claims, suggesting efforts are underway to limit their spread.

Rockstar Games and parent company Take-Two Interactive had not publicly addressed the latest leak at the time of writing.

This is also far from the first time Grand Theft Auto VI has suffered a major leak.

In September 2022, dozens of videos containing early development footage appeared online in one of the largest leaks in video game history. Rockstar subsequently confirmed that an unauthorized third party had illegally accessed and downloaded confidential information from its systems.

Nearly four years later, Rockstar once again finds itself dealing with unofficial footage spreading across the internet ahead of one of its biggest marketing events.

GTA 6’s Official Extended Look Arrives August 27

Players won’t have to rely on leaked footage for much longer.

Rockstar has officially announced that Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look will premiere on August 27, 2026.

The presentation is scheduled to debut on Netflix at 3 p.m. ET, followed by availability through Rockstar’s official YouTube channel and the GTA 6 website later that day.

Rockstar hasn’t revealed exactly how extensive the presentation will be, but expectations are understandably high. After years of trailers, screenshots and speculation, this could provide the most comprehensive official look yet at how GTA 6 actually plays.

The timing of the leak may now put even more attention on that presentation as players compare unofficial footage with the polished version Rockstar chooses to show publicly.

When Does GTA 6 Release?

Grand Theft Auto VI is officially scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The game returns the series to Vice City and introduces the state of Leonida, with Jason and Lucia serving as its central protagonists.

Rockstar describes their story as beginning when an easy score goes wrong and the pair become caught in a criminal conspiracy stretching across Leonida.

With only a few months remaining before release, Rockstar’s marketing campaign is now entering its most important period.

Another Leak Rockstar Didn’t Need

For fans hungry for every possible GTA 6 detail, the temptation to hunt down the leaked videos will undoubtedly be strong.

But there’s now a particularly good reason to wait.

Rockstar’s August 27 presentation is only days away and should provide a much better representation of the game players will actually experience in November. It will also allow Rockstar to demonstrate GTA 6’s systems, world and gameplay in their intended context rather than through fragmented footage uploaded without the developer’s permission.

The leak may have stolen some of Rockstar’s thunder, but it could also make next week’s presentation even bigger.

After years of waiting, we’re finally approaching the point where speculation surrounding Grand Theft Auto VI will begin giving way to the game itself.
