over the hill Launches on Steam October 14
Fans of laid-back off-road exploration officially have a date to mark on their calendars. Funselektor and Strelka Games have announced that over the hill will launch for PC via Steam on October 14, 2026.
The upcoming off-road adventure comes from the creators behind games including art of rally, Absolute Drift, and Golden Lap, but this time the focus shifts away from racing and toward exploring the wilderness at your own pace.
Off-Roading Without the Finish Line
Rather than competing for the fastest lap or chasing podium finishes, over the hill is built around the experience of heading off the beaten path.
Players will take control of vintage off-road vehicles inspired by the 1960s through the 1980s and explore large environments filled with trails, mountains, forests, lakes, and other challenging terrain.
The game can be played solo or cooperatively with up to four players, allowing groups to form their own off-road convoy and tackle the wilderness together.
Dynamic weather and a day-and-night cycle add another layer to exploration, while terrain deformation means the ground itself can become part of the challenge when vehicles encounter mud and difficult trails.
Explore, Upgrade, and Keep Going
Exploration is at the heart of over the hill. Players can discover portals connecting different environments while completing objectives that unlock additional vehicles, upgrades, customization options, and cosmetics.
Vehicles can also be personalized with equipment and accessories, including additional lights, roof racks, spare tires, and other gear.
Instead of constantly pushing players toward the next objective, the developers are leaning heavily into a slower style of gameplay where simply finding a route through the wilderness is part of the experience.
A built-in photo mode will also give players the opportunity to capture landscapes and memorable moments they encounter during their travels.
More Than 1.2 Million Steam Wishlists
There already appears to be significant interest surrounding the project.
According to the developers, over the hill has surpassed 1.2 million wishlists on Steam ahead of its October launch.
The game’s limited-time demo also attracted more than 500,000 players, giving a sizable audience an early opportunity to experience its approach to off-road exploration.
The demo appeared during Steam Next Fest in June and allowed players to explore the Emerald Lake area of the game’s Canada-inspired region.
Console Players Will Have to Wait
The October 14 release will initially be limited to PC through Steam, but console versions are officially planned.
over the hill is scheduled to arrive on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 sometime in 2027. Specific release dates for those versions haven’t been announced.
For PC players, however, the wait is considerably shorter.
With its combination of classic 4x4s, cooperative exploration, changing weather, vehicle customization, and an intentionally relaxed approach to off-roading, over the hill could offer an interesting alternative for players who enjoy driving games but aren’t necessarily looking for another traditional racer.
